NO SHAMPOO: DAY 12

I thought I would update around week one but time flies when you are busy. My thoughts about the no shampoo/conditioner remain uncertain. I'm pretty sure the only reason I have made it to day 12 is because they say that you won't really see the glorious results until week six. That's a pretty big commitment, folks. (And maybe there is this prideful side of me that is determined to stick it out only because I told you I would.)I had such success with my day one wash that I got a little baking-soda-happy on my day four wash and made more of a paste just because it was easier to rub onto the roots. Bad idea. It dried out my scalp and left me with an itchy, flaky head. Do note, there is a difference between dandruff and dry scalp. Dandruff is a fungus with yellow, oily flakes. Dry scalp is an over-dried scalp from harsh detergents, producing small, white (easily-breakable) flakes. I have a dry scalp. The next time I washed my hair with the no-poo concoction, I diluted the baking soda quite a bit. The damage was already done to my scalp and although, my hair looked and felt clean, my head itched.Just yesterday I massaged coconut oil all around the dry portions to help moisturize the skin. It helped with relief but it definitely made my roots way more oily looking and I had a hard time washing it out in the shower. So today, I washed it again but this time I used Wellness Mama's no-shampoo recipe. It consists of Dr. Brommer's, coconut milk, water and lavender essential oil. My scalp feels ten times better and though my hair is still a bit heavy, it looks clean and smells good.On a positive note, I will say, I haven't had a problem with my hair being overly greasy and I also haven't had a problem with my hair smelling bad like some feared it may.  I'm also surprised at how long I can stretch the time between shampoos with it still looking good. I think overall my biggest issue is the itchy scalp and it's my fault for going overboard.Overall, uncertain is the word for the week. It all seems so subjective. Everyone has different types of water, we all shower at different temperatures,  I may not always measure things accurately (who has time for that) and we all have completely different diets (which has a great effect on your hair.)  I think I'm going to stick with the Wellness mama recipe for now.Until the next update...who knew I could write so much about hair?Have you tried the no-poo movement yet? I've had a few people message me and tell me they have started or and several that have told me they are considering. I would love to hear your thoughts/experiences!
