A HOLY PURSUIT

Family Visits, Adjusting to Life and Road Trip Plans

The other day, a friend pointed out to me that we haven't had time to adjust together as a family of four since Skye's birth. For the past 2.5 months, we've had a number of guests come to visit us, causing a constant flow of people in and out of our house. The last of our guests left early this morning and we have 11 days of our normal life before the movers come and pack it all away. Don't get me wrong, I loved spending time with our family that we rarely get to see but if there is one thing that I learned last year with Kaiden, it's that he needs consistency and our life has been anything but that. We are about to embark on a huge journey across country and even upon our arrival, we will still be in limbo until we find a house. It's already been an adjustment for Kaiden to have a new family member, but now we are dealing with a new location and a new job (and hours) for Ethan. That's lots for us all to take in and so I don't think we plan on having any more guests for a little while until we get settled. The military allots us 8 travel days to get to Georgia. We will be driving our truck and fifth wheel across country, taking our time and seeing sights as we go. Some of the highlights of our trip include Red Rock Canyon Park, the Grand Canyon, visiting an old college friend in New Mexico and stopping to see our family in Oklahoma. Once we get to Georgia, the military puts us in what is called a "Temporary Living Facility" or "TLF." When we first moved here to California, we found ourselves living in the TLF for a little over 2 months. I'm so excited for the fact that we have a fifth wheel. I didn't blog about it but we sold our vintage trailer and upgraded to a 26 foot long fifth wheel. The trailer was just too much work for us and we scored the fifth wheel for an amazing deal! It has a working kitchenette, shower, bathroom, and has AC/Heat. It has a slideout that gives us a pretty large open floor for the kiddo's to play on. There is a queen sized bed, bunk bed for Kaiden and Skye, and the couch turns into a bed as well. It's pretty much a mini house on wheels. (I still need to post pics!) We've used it for camping and figured it is the perfect place to live temporarily while on the road. Instead of our alloted housing money going towards the TLF, we can just put it right into the fifth wheel. I'm just thrilled knowing that we can comfortably take this cross-country trip with a one month old and toddler.
