Maternity Copy-cat Fashion Inspiration

I've (surprisingly) met a lot of women that are anti-maternity clothes. Part of the reason is they don't want to spend money on clothes they won't wear that long (although, if you think about it, even your last trimester is 12 weeks long. That's a long time!) and the other reason is that they tend to be homely and, well, "mom" looking. I, too, struggled with this during my last pregnancy. I know fashion trends don't have eternal value, but when you are pregnant and hormonal and you feel as big as a cow, sometimes it's nice to dress up and feel pretty...but I also don't think that it should be at the expense of your comfort. With that said, I've searched the web and have collaborated a few outfits that will work as staple pieces to your maternity wardrobe, won't break the bank and will keep you comfortable while looking trendy. I pinned this lace, chiffon top just recently and it's already gotten over a hundred repins! Well, when I saw a similar MATERNITY top at Old Navy, I got extremely excited. I've seen a lot of cute maternity sweaters and tops but they usually tend to stick to basic patterns for the very reason that women only wear these clothes for less than 9 months. I think Old Navy's version of this chiffon top is classic and would go great with a nice pair of jeans or leggings. I'm seriously thinking about picking it up the next time I'm in the store.I purchased my first "Dolman Sweater" last fall. They are comfy, hide whatever you need to hide and give a stylish twist to the plain, old sweater. Target's line, Merona Maternity, has these sweaters in a variety of colors and the price is currently slashed to $17.00! Pair with leggings and boots and accessorize with a big necklace and you're good to go! Stripes go with just about anything. The Gap model on the left is wearing hers with colored jeans but you could also wear them with regular jeans or a maxi skirt. For a little more than ten bucks, you could be wearing a maternity version from H&M.This is one of my favorites...partly, because I see a lot of maxi and pencil skirts for maternity-wearers and they go above the belly. To me personally, I think it's awkward looking and so I love that Target's version sits below the belly. The possibilities are endless with this fun, mustard/amber pleated skirt. I'd wear it even if I didn't have a belly bump!DON'T FORGET! Always, always check the maternity clearance aisles at stores like Old Navy and Target. A few months ago, I scored a pair of maternity jeans from Old Navy for $1.50 and a swimsuit top from Target for $5! You can also check out thrift stores and consignment stores (kid's and baby consignment stores included.)
